Coogee Chemicals Purchases Next Generation Hyster Reach Stacker
09 July, 2012
Coogee Chemicals recently purchased the next generation Hyster RS45-31CH reach stacker from Adaptalift Hyster. The Hyster reach stacker provides Coogee Chemicals with a highly flexible solution that eliminates the specific issues they had with handling chemicals in the past that required contract crane hire.
Coogee Chemicals chose Adaptalift Hyster as their preferred supplier because of “Hyster’s overall build quality, competitive pricing & availability of support”, said Jeff Muller, Queensland and NT operations, Coogee Chemicals.
Coogee Chemicals is a privately owned company and proudly Western Australian. Coogee Chemicals commenced operations in 1971 as a copper sulphate producer in Western Australia. Over the last 41 years the company has continued to expand its product range and operations around Australia and into Malaysia. The company now has 11 sites and employs over 200 people. Coogee Chemicals produces a wide range of industrial, agricultural and mineral processing chemicals for supply to both the Australian and International markets. In addition it provides bulk liquid terminal facilities for import, export and storage of chemicals and fuels.
Coogee’s Mt Isa fleet contains one reach stacker and a 2.5T forklift. The Reach Stacker is predominately used by Coogee Chemicals to pick up and store Iso-Tanker Containers. These containers hold a reagent product which is supplied to Mt Isa Mines to assist in the manufacturing of Xanthates.
The Hyster Reach Stacker will significantly improve productivity and handling times for the Coogee Chemicals’ Mt Isa site. Fast and safe handling of Iso-Tanker Containers is essential for Coogee Chemicals day to day operations. The end result of Coogee Chemicals’ investment is considerable costs savings and improved flexibility.
In regards to communication and response times of Adaptalift Hyster, Muller explains “all communication with Wayne Pearce (Area Sales Manager, QLD) and Debbi Fisher (Sales Administrator, QLD) was excellent, thorough and timely. The service provided by Wayne was excellent and he went out of his way to make a demo machine available to view in operation. The two service techs that assembled our machine in Mount Isa were very proficient, complied with site requirements and completed the assembly and hand over quicker than expected.”
About the Next Generation Hyster RS45-31CH Reach Stacker
The RS45-31CH Reach Stacker model is designed for high density container stacking applications, usually up to 5-high and 3-rows deep. This model is available with a modern clean-running diesel engine, oil-immersed brakes, robust drive-axle and advanced auto-shift transmission, which all combine to maintain maximum productivity and reliability during operation in demanding applications such as the Coogee Chemicals warehousing site.
A major focal point on Hyster Reach Stackers is the drivetrain. The transmission and engine management systems ensure protection against potentially damaging operational procedures, for example, transmission forward to reverse “shifting lock-out” prevents potential tensional stress being applied to the drive train when changing direction. In addition, the engine protection and monitoring system initially derates the engine power and finally shuts down the engine when a fault is detected. This safety mechanism is of crucial impor- tance to Coogee Chemicals as safety is an integral part of the workplace culture.
The Reach Stacker’s hydraulic system is highly efficient, and features ‘Two-Speed Lift’ and ‘Power on Demand’ functions so that the truck only delivers the required lifting power according to weight with class leading lifting speeds. The Vista Cab provides excellent visibility for drivers thanks to a (standard) Powered Sliding Cab, widely spaced rear boom supports, and a sloping rear counterweight.
The Reach Stacker range comes standard with air-conditioning as well as a tropical cooling system which offers additional cooling of the engine and hydraulic systems, for working in ambient tempera- tures of up to 50 ̊C. These models have easy service access to minimize cost and service time.
