CATs clean up at Visy Recycling

Visy Australia has taken delivery of two new Caterpillar Wheel Loaders for their Gibson Island and Nudgee recycling centres.

In February 2008, Adapt-A-Lift were asked by Visy to conduct a site inspection at the company’s Gibson Island plant and make recommendations on how to improve the bulk handling of their materials. Impressed with the professionalism and advice, AAL was asked to return to continue discussions and also review the company’s Nudgee plant.
In a deal finalised in October 2008, it was decided that a Cat 950H with a 6m3 bucket and a Cat 930 with a 4 in 1 bucket was best suited for the Gibson Island and Nudgee plants respectively.

AAL’s Jason Wickham explains, “Because these machines will be working in a recycling environment, we had to ensure that we sourced the correct machine for that environment as well as cope with demand. Gibson Island currently handles around 1,200 tonnes of recycled material and Nudgee around 680 tonnes per week.”

Both trucks were equipped with underbody guards, tyres with strengthened side walls, auto greasing, Fire suppression system and Windscreen guards.

Importantly both were also installed with Forktrack, AAL’s proprietary fleet management system. ForkTrack will improve workplace safety and compliance, as well as report on fleet utilisation and performance.

Both machines began work in January this year and have brought operational efficiencies and improved safety to both sites.
